Washers and dryers are dynamic duos in the household. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to wear clean and dry clothes. If they start to give you trouble, there is no reason to panic. Just call Matthew’s Appliance Repair and we will be able to repair them quickly and efficiently. We can also perform these repairs at affordable prices that won’t break the bank.

Regular Maintenance

When it comes to electrical appliances, regular maintenance is key. It also helps to have us come and have a look once or twice a year. You can perform the following tasks yourself:

  • Clean the drain filter: Do this twice a month or monthly
  • Clean out any lint: Most machines come with alerts to let you know that the lint needs clearing out. You should, however, be performing this task weekly
  • Clean the machine: If you start to notice water, detergent, and dirt buildup, then simply run a hot cycle on an empty machine.

When Do You Involve Us?

Excessive Vibrations

If your brand-new washer is bouncing around a lot, then you should check the following:

  • The stabilizer bar has been taken out (This should only be kept in for transportation reasons)
  • It is on a level surface
  • The feet are placed evenly

If this is an older machine, then check to see if the load is evenly distributed. If it is even, then give us a call.

Washer Not Spinning

Check to see if the washer is on the right setting. If your clothes are on a heavier soil cycle, then the machine will allow the clothes to soak for longer. If the settings are normal, check to see how big the load is that you’ve put in. An overloaded machine won’t spin.

Dryer is Overheating

Turn off the machine and give it time to cool off. Check the lint trap and vents to make sure that they aren’t blocked. You can clean them out yourself if this is the case.

If it’s the heating coils or thermostat that are acting up, then you need to call us. These sorts of repairs are not to be attempted by amateurs.

Drum Won’t Spin

This is a common and easy repair to carry out. It is most often caused by a worn belt. It could also be a roller that needs replacing, which is also an easy fix. However, if the idler or motor are malfunctioning, this is a bit more complicated and requires professional help.
